CMMI
The Capability Maturity Model Integration
(CMMI)
is a maturity model for process improvement. CMMI can be compared to quality frameworks like
ISO 9001,
by the International Organization for Standardization,
and the Information Technology Infrastructure Library
(ITIL).
CMMI provides the possibility of external certification of an organization's
level of maturity. Because of this, it is especially popular among software
development companies who can use their maturity level as a selling argument.
Appraisals
Appraisals are used to determine strengths and weaknesses based on the CMMI
model. Best practices from the model are compared to the organization's
processes to see if the CMMI goals are satisfied or not.
